Shelter Tours

Join us for a guided tour of Kent County’s two largest shelters: Kent County Animal Shelter and Humane Society of West Michigan. Please note space is limited on the tours.

Learn how both shelters save thousands of lives every year by using industry best practices to consistently maintain a Live Release Rate of 90% and higher. 

Registration is required for each shelter, and space is limited. Attendees will self-drive or rideshare to the shelters. 

Kent County Animal Shelter

Kent County Animal Shelter (KCAS) is a municipal shelter serving the fourth most populous county in Michigan. It was established in 1940 and is currently operated by 18 staff members with 90 active volunteers. KCAS serves people by offering support, resources and education while serving animals by ensuring safety and positive experiences. The tour will show the overall layout and setup of our facility and enrichment programs.

Humane Society of West Michigan

Tours of Humane Society of West Michigan (HSWM) will include the entire facility, allowing participants to learn more about the shelter’s foster care, adoptions and behavior programs, as well as training classes and emergency temporary housing. Participants will visit housing areas and the veterinary suite. HSWM is an Orphan Kitten Club partner shelter and this tour will include the foster room where thousands of animals are cared for every year, including more than 1,000 kittens.
