Joe became committed to animal welfare early working at his family’s veterinary practice in Wahoo, Nebraska. He would continue fighting for animals as a prosecutor, being elected Saunders County Attorney in Nebraska at the age of 28. Prosecuting animal abusers was a top priority in his office and he worked with local communities to enact humane animal ordinances, even stopping a village from poisoning and shooting cats. Joe also led the fight to hold the State of Nebraska and polluters accountable for catastrophic environmental contamination at an ethanol plant in his jurisdiction.
Family brought Joe to Michigan, where he lives with his wife, son, two dogs, and a bunny.
