Membership Level Transition FAQ

Why are membership levels changing?

MPA is consolidating membership levels to make it easier for organizations to join.

Which levels are changing?

Current membership levels for Shelters, Rescues and Other Nonprofits are merging into one category: Organizations

I have an Individual or a Corporate membership, do these changes affect me?

No.

I have an Individual and want to be under my organization’s membership. What do I need to do?

Individual members who would like to join under their organization’s membership will need to log into their account and turn off the account’s auto-renew status so that the organization’s coordinator can add the member to the organization’s group. Instructions can be found here.

How will these changes affect my organization’s membership?

Organizations will pay less and receive unlimited enrollment for employees, volunteers and board members.

When does the new Organization level become available?

April 1, 2026

What is the new rate for organizations?

$250 per year

What do organizations need to do to comply with the rate change?

Nothing. Prior to April 1, 2026, organizations affected by the change will be transitioned to the new organizational level so that on their renewal date, they will be charged the new lower organization membership dues.

My organization’s dues were less than $250. Do I have to renew at the new rate?

No. Current member organizations have the option to grandfather their existing rate or switch to the new rate. Organizations that choose to grandfather retain their limited enrollment rate. Organizations that switch to the new rate receive unlimited enrollment.

Is my organization grandfathered for life?

Yes, as long as the organization renews annually on time. A lapse in renewal will result in switching to the new Organization level and $250 rate. To avoid a lapse, make sure your account has a current payment card on file and is set to auto renew.

If I choose grandfathering now, can I switch to the new rate at a later date?

Yes. Steps for how the change your membership level can be found here.

My organization was grandfathered at a lower rate, but our membership lapsed. Can I rejoin at my old level?

No. You must renew or rejoin at an available membership level:  www.michiganpet.org/membership/join-renew/.

My renewal notice came in, but shows the previous organization level with dues higher than $250. How do I renew at the new Organization level?

While we transition to the new Organization level, there may be some technical issues. We appreciate your patience and understanding. If you receive a renewal notice/invoice that you believe is incorrect, please reach out to membership@michiganpet.org so we can research and correct it.

How do I change my membership to the new Organization level?

Members can change their membership level at any time by following the steps provided here.

How do I add my staff to the unlimited enrollment?

The coordinator can follow the steps here to add, remove or edit any member they have added to their organization membership bundle.
